JANE WOODMAN | vocals/guitar

Jane performed solo as ‘Van Gogh’s Daughter’ around San Francisco in the early nineties. Wanting her dark, ethereal sound to be deeper and louder, she brought in former bandmate Jeanne Hangauer, followed by meeting Paige Weber through Nancy Hess of the SF band Seven Day Diary. Nancy played bass in the beginning, but was replaced by Rachel Thoele when Seven Day Diary was getting signed and planning a tour. At that point, VGD became cohesive, well-known, and busy. They released an orange 7” vinyl of ‘Down’ / ‘Crystal’ on Psykodisc and was eventually signed by major label Hollywood Records, released ‘Shove’, and toured the country. ‘Through the Eyes of Julie’ video featured 'The Love Boat' crew, and was in regular rotation on MTV2.

A solo artist since 2010, her releases from 2011-2018 received substantial airplay. She toured the US, and landed on many independent charts, top 20 end of year lists, and was one of SF Deli’s top 5 post-punk/noise artists. New singles will be released this year. Jane is a musician and multimedia designer living in Kansas City, MO.

PAIGE WEBER | vocals/guitar

Paige performed with bands and solo occasionally, around San Francisco in the early nineties. She was putting her own band together when she met Jane, but they quickly became prolific collaborators that wrapped intoxicating guitar and vocal parts around their new and existing songs. They then devoted their energies into establishing a sound and direction with the band. Paige’s SOMA rehearsal studio became an up and coming musician’s workspace, with renowned artist Rex Ray creating post modern masterpieces in his studio down the hall. On the roof peering down through the air vent directly over the stage of the DNA Lounge next door, they saw Prince, 4 Non Blondes, Counting Crows, and others. In the newly restored 'Down' video, she takes a slinky stroll through someone's living room and paints herself blue before they get home, as the rest of the band turns the space into a playground. The 'Down' 7" release reached #24 on CMJ (College Music Journal). Her songs evoke a gritty sensuality that the VGD sound was perfect for. Paige is a musician and decorative artist living in Alta, CA.

RACHEL THOELE | vocals/bass

Rachel had placed an ad looking for a band in SF Weekly, and Jane answered it, finding out she lived right around the corner in Hayes Valley. She was a founding member of the seminal SF punk bands Mudwimmin and Frightwig, and toured and recorded with Flipper a few years ago. She brought out an edge that made the band’s sound explode, inspiring the aggressive and experimental aesthetic of the songs. Driving around SF in her art car (the band's mascot) plastered with photos of artists, she did her part to uphold the city's reputation for punk mayhem. See her photography on VGD and her socials. Rachel is a musician and photographer living in Crockett, CA.

JEANNE HANGAUER | drums

Jeanne was the drummer in Jane’s first band in SF in the late eighties, along with her partner Taina Kissinger, who shot many amazing photos of VGD that occur throughout the project. Their successful printing and photography studio Visual Presentation ran until a couple of years ago. Jeanne’s expansive, soulful playing is on display in the live footage, and with Rachel’s monumental bass, they became a force of nature. Her ability to play to the song’s essence is a rare talent that solidified the band’s gigantic sound. Jeanne is a musician and consultant living in San Francisco, CA.
